Solomon Islands confident West Papua will be MSG member by December
Solomon Islands prime minister Manasseh Sogavare says he’s confident West Papua will be granted full membership of the Melanesian Spearhead Group before the end of the year.
It’s a stance that puts Solomon Islands and Vanuatu at odds with Fiji and Papua New Guinea.
Solomons MP Derrick Manuari is the parliamentary representative for the Solomon Islands Solidarity Group for West Papua.
He says Mr Sogavare, as MSG chairman, made the decision after intense lobbying from West Papua’s Melanesian allies.
